Social media marketing or SMM is a growing trend for businesses. Websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube bring new opportunities for growth, branding and relationship building between clients and businesses. The problem is that most businesses don’t know where to start.

SMM might be a bit intimidating for you, especially if you are not used to using websites like Facebook or Twitter. If you already use these sites, changing over from personal to business use is painless.

If you are new to Social Media and you feel like you need help, contact a professional for advice. Experts like NewEra Social Marketing offer services to get you started the right way. Getting started is the most difficult part. You can save yourself a lot of time and headaches by consulting a professional.

Facebook has over 1 billion active users…. Twitter has over 500 million that generate 1.6 billion tweets a day

So what are the potential benefits of Social Media Marketing?

  1. Customer Engagement –  I feel this is the most important part of SMM. Social media opens the door for direct customer engagement day and night. Everywhere  you look people are checking Facebook on their phones, tweeting the latest topics, and sharing it all with their friends and family. The potential for directly interacting with new clients is almost unlimited.
  2. Trustworthiness and Value – How often have you seen a friend or family member wear a branded t-shirt or see them with a cup of coffee from the local café? All the time. When you notice them wearing and holding those brands it’s easy to see that they trust or value that brand. When a person likes your page on Facebook, shares a post or re-tweets your content on Twitter they are telling every one of their friends and contacts that they like you and value you. This in-turn attracts new customers.
  3. Cost effectiveness – The cost of local advertising for small businesses using radio, billboards and TV is ridiculous. Although they have their own benefits, the costs are high and the financial risk is not something most small business look forward to experimenting with. Starting an account with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube as of the date of this article is $0. The cost of maintaining the content is low. It can be done in as little as 10 minutes to 2 hours of your time each day. You can delegate this responsibility to a competent employee, do it yourself or hire an outside consultant. Either way it’s do-able.

Social media marketing is a very effective tool for many more reasons you’ll soon discover when you make the choice to dive into it. Finding out what works and what doesn’t takes a little time. Don’t worry about messing up. The public is very forgiving if you make mistakes. If what you try doesn’t work keep trying new things until something does work.

I urge you to find out for yourself how SMM can help your business. I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying different things with my business and I realized that I enjoy how easy it is to keep up a decent social presence for little to no cost. I’ve gained many new clients and my existing clients benefit when I post something useful to them.
