5 reasons you should consider using Ubuntu Linux

The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in. – Open Source Initiative

Ubuntu
Ubuntu is only one of the many flavors of Linux but it is the most popular. In 2010 an estimated 12 million people were using Ubuntu Linux.  Today the estimated number of Ubuntu users is expected to be dramatically higher. There are many reasons Ubuntu Linux is growing in popularity.

#1. Usability
Many of the smart features you see today in popular operating systems are inspired by Linux. But unlike its competitors, Ubuntu is open source and free from “single-minded corporate control”. The features of Ubuntu are developed by people who use it. Ubuntu also comes prepackaged with fully featured software. Everything you need is available from word processing to photo editing.

#2. Performance
Linux-based operating systems are built for speed and performance. Most computers run effortlessly on Linux. Even older systems will run Linux with little to no problems. I often recommend installing the lighter version Xubuntu on a PC that a client is replacing. Why throw it out when you can re-purpose it.

#3. Security
Linux is one of the most secure operating systems, period. Malware, viruses, trojans, and other junk have a hard time finding a place on a Linux system.

#4. Reliability
Ubuntu and most other Linux distributions receive regular updates and improvements making it better with age. I trust Ubuntu will stay awesome for many years to come.

#5. Software
Ubuntu comes with an assortment of just about every kind of software you can expect to use. You can transfer your Windows documents to Ubuntu with ease because it’s all compatible. Ohh and let’s not forget how the word processing software is fully featured and FREE. In fact Ubuntu has alternatives to just about every expensive application on the market. Some even consider these FREE applications to be better.

I recommend you take a few minutes and look at what Ubuntu has to offer. Click here for and online tour and try it for yourself .
